How to Save Your Tweets In Archive and Delete Your Twitter Account

Delete and Archive Twitter

Whether you like it or not, Twitter is changing as a result of its recent acquisition by Elon Musk. There are already warning signs. Much has changed from the time of Musk's initial bid to the time he actually signed the acquisition agreement and showed up at the Twitter office. Musk began by removing the company's top executives, and he is already preparing a significant reorganization of Twitter's workforce. It is planned to create a new committee to supervise moderation and rule enforcement. This council will decide if questionable accounts like Donald Trump's will be reinstated.

A new path for Twitter is more significant. Alarms regarding an increase in far-right extremist content have been voiced in response to Musk's absolutely free speech stance, and evidence suggests that it has already begun. A few significant individuals have already departed, and more have announced plans to do so soon. Make careful to archive your data first if you intend to leave Twitter as well. Here is how can you save your tweets before deleting your twitter account.

How to Save your Tweets in an Archive

If you want to leave Twitter but want a record of your activity for future verification or think your account might be in danger of being hacked, Twitter lets you save a copy of your data. All of your tweets, direct message chats, shared media that you have linked to tweets or responses, Moments, and a tonne of other information can be saved. You must first send a request for the archiving of such data on the mobile app in order to do this.

  1. Tap on  the profile image in the top-right corner of the Twitter app on your phone.

  2. Select Settings & Support, then choose  the "Settings and privacy" option from the drop-down menu that displays.

  3. Choose "Your account" from the top menu.

  4. Select "Download an archive of your data" from the menu.

  5. When prompted, enter your password, then select the Next button.

  6. Click  the Request Archive menu item.
You will receive an email and an in-app alert letting you know when the archived details are available to download once you request an archive of all your Twitter data. The archived account data is provided as JSON and HTML files that must first be unzipped. Your archive is a folder in the downloaded file with information about your fundamental account stats (likes, blocked profiles, muted accounts, lists, etc.), tweets, DMs, advertising, and Moments, among other things. This folder opens in a web view to display a dashboard-like interface. A history of all the media you've posted as part of an original tweet, reply, or retweet is stored in the Data folder of the downloaded file.

How to Delete your Twitter Account

You can delete your Twitter account once you've downloaded a copy of all of your Twitter data. It's interesting to note that Twitter doesn't permit immediate account deletion. Instead, you must deactivate your account first. After the 30-day period of reconsideration, if you deactivate your Twitter account and don't log in again, it will be automatically erased.
  1. Tap the profile button in the top-left corner of the Twitter mobile app homepage and choose "Settings and privacy."

  2. Choose "Your account" from the top menu.

  3. Click "Deactivate your account" to do so.

  4. At the bottom of the page, select the red Deactivate option by scrolling down.

  5. Input the password for the Twitter account, then once more approve the deactivation prompt.
Click on the three-dot menu button on the screen's left border if you are using Twitter's desktop web client, and then proceed as follows: Privacy and settings > Your account > Turn off your account. Your Twitter account will be destroyed if you deactivate it and don't log in again within the following 30 days. All of the data that appears in your data archive, including your Twitter username, all of your tweets, and the account data related to them, will be lost. Once the account is removed, your username will appear on a list of ones that are open to other users.
